Katherine and Nitimiluk N.P.

We were up before the birds on our second morning! We packed up the camp and headed for the township of Katherine, and then straight to the Gorge (aka Nitmiluk N.P.) We spent the whole morn and the early avo (see, I'm really getting into it!) canoeing down the Katherine gorge. It was simply stunning. It reminded me of images you would see of the rockies. The sun was splitting the rocks and we were getting soaked, all was good in the world! We saw snakes clinging to walls along the way. It was hard going at times as the canoes were not the best at staying in a straight line! At the very start ours (Jaime and me) did a 360 turn and I'm sure that everyone was thinking that they were going to be stuck with 2 imbeciles for the day, but we quickly got the hang of it and flew along the first gorge. Then came the trickly part of getting the canoe over the rocks (which were extrememly slippy) at the end and into the 2nd gorge. I just kept falling all over the place so Jaime ended up bringing it through herself, and I still came away with loads of bruises!! We had lunch along the way and then had to make our way back to the beginning again.

We had done so well that we got back before the estimated time so Megan, our guide, said that we could go to the Katherine hotsprings. They weren't exactly hot, but they were lovely and relaxing after a hard day of rowing! We headed to a different campsite this evening and relaxed with a few beers before dinner and sleeping under the stars again. It was another great day.
