Snowier Plains!!

I would have loved another day in Franz, but I just couldn't afford the time, so it was off on the road to Wanaka the next morning. Our first stop was to the extremely picturesque Lake Matheson, which is the most photographed lake in NZ apparently. We had another stunning day which made the scene postcard perfect! The lake reflects the surroundings perfectly, in particular Mt.Cook (the highest mountain in NZ) and Mt.Tasmin. The reason the lake reflects so well is because the water is brown due to draining through the rainforest floor. It is really beautiful.

Our next stop was at the Roaring Billy Falls for lunch where we had a massive snow ball fight which was a great laugh. The poor driver was bombarded by everyone!

Then it was on to Wanaka, which is a beautiful little snow resort town, with a big lake, surrounded by snowy mountains. We stayed in the Wanaka hotel instead of a backpackers and we all had t.v's in our rooms!! This sounds silly, but it had been so long since we had seen television. They showed movies all night and we were all in our P.J's by 7pm watching Top Gun, Rainman and Walk the Line. It was luxury!!

The following morning we headed for Queenstown, stopping at Puzzling world first which was a bit of a laugh and got the brain working again!! We also stopped at the Kawarau bridge which was the sight of the 1st commercial Bungy jump (AJ Hackett).
Queenstown is a proper ski resort, but not the nicest of towns I have been to, and definitely has resort prices!!

We had a few nights out here, lots of skiing and spent lots of money, but I was glad to be leaving it to go see some more beautiful places.
